Dover Castle World War II event

It was fun yesterday at Dover Castle as there was a WWII event all day. There were lots of things to see and do. I took all the photos I am not in.

The first thing I did was the obstacle course. I had to crawl under nets, jump over pretend barbed wire and climb under a parachute. All the time the Sargent Major was shouting things like "You orrible shower" at the end he told me my uniform was dirty. It was really funny when he was ordering me about.

Then me and my mum went to get our hair done in a Victory Roll which was a 1940s hairstyle. The hairdressers used lots of hairspray, back-combing and pins to keep the rolls in place. They also put on bright red lipstick as this is the colour women would have worn.

There was a spitfire aeroplane  that looked real, but it had been made my a group of people there.

There lots of people dressed up as German and British soldiers. They demonstrated all their weapons to show how loud they were. At the end they had a big battle between them. All of the uniforms and equipment they had were real so it was very interesting looking at it all and asking them questions.

I spoke to a German soldier dressed up as a military police officer. He gave be a pass that soldiers would get to show they can go on holiday and it was also used as a train ticket. He stamped it with a real WWII German military police stamp, in purple ink as this is the colour that Germany used.  He also gave me some replica money. He  showed me photos of his dad in WWII, his granddad in WWI and his mum as an evacuee in Germany.

A lady dressed as ATS showed us how to spot British and German planes in the sky. There were not enough uniforms at the start of the war for women, so they had to wear the men's uniforms. At the end of the war they had proper women's uniforms.

We bought tea from the NAAFI which was a van selling drinks.
